  1. Brief introduction of the device, production process and reaction principle:


Our company produces 80,000 tons/year of potassium sulfate and 96,000 tons/year of hydrochloric acid. A Mannheim furnace (fixed bed) is used to prepare potassium sulfate for agriculture and industrial hydrochloric acid by metathesis reaction of potassium chloride and sulfuric acid. The method is called the Mannheim method and was developed by Mannheim Verein in Germany at the end of the 19th century.

[Note] The reaction heat of 95.5KJ/mol is the reaction heat data under the standard state calculated by the author according to Gass's law, and no accurate literature data has been found.


The actual reaction takes place in two steps:


KCl+H2SO4==KHSO4+HCl +Q (exothermic) (3-2)

KCl+KHSO4==K2SO4+HCl -Q (endothermic) (3-3)


The above reaction is a metathesis reaction between liquid and solid phases. The first step is an exothermic reaction, which can be carried out at a lower temperature. The second step is a strong endothermic reaction, so the overall process is an endothermic reaction.

As the temperature increases, the decomposition of sulfuric acid intensifies.


The preparation of potassium sulfate and the generation of hydrogen chloride gas are completed in the reaction chamber. The production reaction process is as follows: the temperature in the reaction chamber is controlled in the range of 480-560 °C, and each equipment is in normal operation and standby conditions. The reaction generates potassium sulfate and hydrogen chloride gas.

Among them, the hydrogen chloride gas is continuously drawn away by the hydrogen chloride exhaust fan to maintain a slight negative pressure in the reaction chamber, and the finished potassium sulfate is continuously removed from the reaction chamber and enters the left and right cooling pushers. Send it to the belt conveyor, after sieving, crushing and adding a small amount of stone powder to neutralize the acid, it enters the finished product silo, and is metered and packaged to the potassium sulfate finished product warehouse.
